Obama’s Top 5 Healthcare Lies

This one from an email put out by the League of American Voters:

Dear Friend:

Are Obama and his friends taking you as a fool?

You have to wonder what they really think about the intelligence of the American people.

Obama repeatedly has out-and-out lied about his healthcare plan.

Here are just 5 of the big whoppers.

Lie #1: ‘You Keep Your Doctor, You Keep Your Insurer’

This is a complete fabrication.

Under plans Obama has backed in the House and the Senate, almost any business can opt their employees into the “public option” — the government health plan.

That means you could lose your insurer. And if your doctor is worth his salt, you’ll lose him or her as well.

Why? Because great doctors probably will not want to get the very low rates the government will pay private doctors who are part of the new government system.

So, without your consent, you very easily could lose your insurer and your doctor.

Lie #2: The Elderly Will Not Face Rationing or Medicare Cuts

More baloney.

In fact, just last week, The New York Times, a very liberal and very pro-Obama newspaper, admitted that fears of rationing for elderly patients are “not irrational.”

The truth is that Obamacare would almost 50 million new patients to government care.

Who would pay for it. You would!

Seniors on Medicare will be the first hit.

Here’s what the Times reported: “Bills now in Congress would squeeze savings out of Medicare, a lifeline for the elderly, on the assumption that doctors and hospitals can be more efficient.”

This means that faceless bureaucrats will decide the type and quality of your care.

It is a very dangerous thing to give your life and well-being over to government bureaucrats!

Imagine if you or a loved one is older than 80 years and critically needs heart surgery.

Instead of getting the heart procedure, you or that loved one could be informed that you are simply too old.

We at the League of American Voters have been warning of this danger and have a powerful TV commercial exposing the risks to seniors.

Lie #3: There Will Be No “Death Panels.”

More lies.

Sure, they don’t call them “death panels” in the legislation, but that’s what their job will be.

These committee members will set guidelines with which faceless bureaucrats will make decisions about you and your healthcare.

They will decide who lives and who dies. They decide who gets critical procedures and expensive medicines.

Again, according to the New York Times, the Democratic plans call for saving money by creating new oversight committees.

The Times says that Medicare and insurers would be expected to follow “advice from a new federal panel of medical experts on ‘what treatments work best.’”

Again, this very liberal paper concluded: “The zeal for cutting health costs, combined with proposals to compare the effectiveness of various treatments and to counsel seniors on end-of-life care, may explain why some people think the legislation is about rationing, which could affect access to the most expensive services in the final months of life.”

Lie #4: The Obama Plan Contains Costs

Absolute nonsense.

The Obama plan will cost more than $1 trillion in new federal outlays, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office.

This past weekend, Sen. Joe Lieberman claimed that most of this cost comes from adding 50 million people, currently uninsured, to the government health system.

But as Lieberman pointed out, we just don’t have the money to do this right now.

You can add only so many people to the government system by cutting medical care to seniors on Medicare and raising taxes.

Democrats clearly plan to do both.

Lie #5: Illegals Are Not Covered by Obamacare

President Obama has stated time and again that illegal aliens are not covered under his new plan.

Still, Democrats say they want to add almost 50 million uninsured. Yet almost one-quarter of these uninsured are illegal aliens.

None of the Democratic plans excludes illegal aliens.

In fact, when Republicans proposed an amendment to the House plan to block illegals from getting free government healthcare, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her minions soundly defeated the motion.

Many, many lies are emanating from Washington today.

This is why the work of the League of American Voters is so critical now.

Dick Morris, the famous Fox News analyst and campaign strategist, says the League is the No. 1 organization today fighting Obamacare.

“Every American who wants to stop Obamacare should join with the League,” Morris says. “They have the best strategy to stop it from becoming law.”

Just two weeks ago, the League’s powerful new TV ad went on the air.

Thanks to your help, it’s already running in 12 states — and it is affecting millions of people.

We believe it is one reason some Democrats are starting to retreat.

But our job is not done.

We must fight the lies.

We must expose the dangers of Obamacare to all Americans.

Please act today by joining the League and donating to us today.

The previous DemokRAT Party Presidents never said;” Maybe you don’t need surgery, maybe you should take these pain pills. Barry Obama is just as much a sociopath as George W. Bush.

  2. You sould be ashamed of you’re selves for spreading lies and fear all in the name of greed. You know none of those to be lies. You are just assuming and currently they are not called death panels but people are denied medical care now. Not because of age but because of of greed/profits of the insurance companies and that is a fact. What happend to greed being one of the 7 deadly sins? How much is enough? Doctors can compete with a public option IF they choose to charge a fair price. Everyone likes money and you should be compensated for hard work and education but every leagal U.S. citizen (not illeagles)should have access to health care. If you dont have you’re health then how can you be expected to be a productive member of our society? I suggest everyone that votesw against the public option should give up thier goverment health care since they feel it is below par. dont feed the anger. No matter what side you are on sit down and calmly discuss the issue and take a moment to see the other side. Just because we dont agree doesnt mean we should hate each other.

  3. Oh John,

First, would you like to buy a t-shirt? Maybe one for a family member? You have to understand that I don’t have health care. I’m one of those young individuals that doesn’t want to pay for health care because it just isn’t worth the cost. I certainly don’t want the government forcing me and other tax payers to pay for an option that will turn into the efficiency that is the US post office. You think that cash for clunkers drained quickly wait until people can get free health care, we will undoubtedly have to turn to rationing it if for no other reason because doctors will not stick around for this crap. So when you have a better left wing argument than to reform the best health care system in the world, Come back and we’ll have a chat. We all have access to health we just have to pay for it…and your complaining about greed! Who is it that feels entitled here?

  4. whoever runs this site is a moron. if there were any real justice in this world this site would be outlawed along with your dumb ass am radio and dumb ass fox news.

now go ahead and keep pretending you matter…and try to get the republican party back on its feet long enough for us to stop laughing and catch our breath.

  5. Haha! Thank you for the comment Mr. “I comment on blogs that don’t matter”. I hope you’ve found your time to be well spent. I’m not sure if you’ve boosted our credibility by commenting or reduced yourself to a loser that comments on blogs that don’t matter. Either way Thank You, and please buy a Obama Lies Grandma dies t-shirt

  6. to c
this is the real world dumbass. thanks for showing how careing, tolerant and willing to punish those who dont think like you, liberals can be. just like obama. your welcome back anytime

  7. John,
Before you try to write a credible opinion pertaining to a very complicated and confusing matter I advise you to get some basic education and learn correct spelling. Besides, you must be awfully gullible to believe The Great Pretender. How sad.

  8. Lie #3: Yawn… this is getting boring, can you come up with something new? We currently have “Death Panels,” they’re called Insurance Companies. It’s in their best interest not to pay money for treatment. Insurance companies aren’t going to make any money by writing checks. They limit coverage, deny coverage and try to find any fine print to save a buck aka, get out of paying for your healthcare.

This bill offers End Of Life Counseling (section 1233), which was part of the 2003 Medicare prescription drug bill – 204 REPUBLICAN House members and 42 REPUBLICAN senators voted FOR this same thing!! And now they’re fear of simply losing to Obama has led them to rename it a “death panel” and condem it. That’s just insulting.

Lie #5: Are you saying that since there are 50 million uninsured in America, that they must be illegal aliens (which is a lie, it’s 45.7 million uninsured, and 10 – 12 million illegals)? Stop assuming and don’t be a must-er-bator (they MUST be illegals if they’re uninsured). The only thing even close to the lie you’re telling, is that illegal aliens would be required to have health insurance. This is a GOOD thing. Currently illegals are getting treatment in Emergency rooms, which are required to treat anyone regardless of citizenship or insurnace coverage. Sure, ideally we wouldn’t have any illegals, but let’s be real. If they’re here, require them to pay their way and have preventative coverage – rather than the more expensive option of waiting until sickness is worse – and it would force them to pay through their insurance if they go to the ER.

And don’t start spreading any lies about “family members of illegal’s” being taken care of. The bill specifically limits this in section 246.

  9. To the person commenting that illegals are going to have to get insurance also, how can you force someone into coverage when you can’t identify them.

  10. Agreed with Bryan Pippin. You can’t force illegal aliens to purchase health insurance, and since they are expressly excluded from the bill in section 246 (look it up) and emergency rooms are prohibited by law from denying treatment to anyone, they will continue to be a burden on the system.

This is a real issue which warrants a constructive debate – but unfortunately the author of this website seems more interested in spreading misinformation about the president than focusing on a solution.

None of the supposed lies listed on this site are correct. A simple search on factcheck.org (independent site) has accurate and in-depth analysis with proper references. It’s sad, but this site does not help move the debate forward in a constructive manner.

  11. You realize, of course, that all of these 5 items are the status quo:

    1) Everyone is now at the mercy of their employer and insurer whether they keep their Doctor, or Insurer. It is silly to think any New Plan would change that. The plan states the government will not be forcing that change. It is not to say that the current employer / insurer won’t make those changes (under the current situation or ANY new plan).

    2) Elderly (or anyone) facing Rationing / Cuts: The planned cuts are to eliminate waste. I would think everyone would be in favor of this — isn’t cutting waste a cornestone of conservative ideology? As far as rationing, there won’t be any rationing per se … but, just like now, shortages of healthcare workers will make for challenges accessing care — on the other hand, removing non-emergencies from emergency rooms and eliminating unecessary testing will reduce the load. Part of reform needs to focus on recruiting more folks into healthcare field. Again … not a different problem than we are soon to face anyway without reform.

    3) “Death Panels” … are you kidding? Until this entry, I thought you were working from a credible position. If you want to characterize those who determine who gets coverage/approved procedures as “Death Panels”, there are thousands of stories about the current Death Panels: private insurerer, corporate, profit motivated “Death Panels” denying coverage all of the time — Right Now. Review/oversight is a necessary part of reform and cost containment. Just look at the guy who runs cprights.org … his companies were fined $1.7B for cheating medicare.

    4) Contains costs — changing anything requires spending some money. Adding everyone will cost money. Preventing waste saves money. Negotiating with pharm firms saves money. It is too early to know what the outcome is, but “contains costs” is a primary objective of Reform.

    5) Illegals: There is nothing in this plan that covers illegals differently than they are today. That is an issue to be dealt with in other laws that require care givers to “do no harm”, and to not discriminate. This one is a red herring.

Summary: All of these so called “lies” are explaining that the plan does not make direct changes to these things — many of them are already happening or will be getting worse under the status quo — But There Is No New Regulation In the Plan to make these worse, and in most cases, there is content that will make them better.

  12. Dear admin: If you don’t have health insurance (sure it’s expensive, that’s why reform is important), what happens if you get hit by a bus … or a pregnancy you are responsible for gets into complications? Are you independently wealthy, or will you go bankrupt, leaving the providers (and possibly tax payers) holding the bag?

  13. Well if I get hit by a bus, I will probably die. If health related complications occur that I cannot afford then I will have to accept them. Who says that I have to be fixed? So you’re saying that if I get in an accident, and I can’t afford the treatment that I have to be fixed? I have a right to not be fixed. If I don’t have money to pay for something, I shouldn’t be forced into paying it, and taxpayers shouldn’t be forced into covering my costs.

  14. jspurr01, as for your rebuttal to the 5 lies. i’m sorry but you lost me. from what i gather, you can’t refute the lies. so 5 points obama lies. 0 points jspurr01. as for your whole status quo bit, i disagree with your premise. the idea that government should be the champion of our health care, that government should take on the increased debt, and that big government can actually improve health care in this nation.

  15. Admin … I am sorry that I lost you. Yes, I refute that … they are not lies … but what I can’t refute is the fact that you call them lies — your counterpoints are merely Your Opinions. Lies must have quantitative proof that the issue in question is Contrary to Fact. There is no language in the current programs that indicate what you say are lies. You are predicting outcomes based on Your Opinions, and projecting Your Opinions as fact. By claiming Your Opinions as fact and therefore saying they are what Will happen, you claim that makes these issues lies. If I were to take your approach, I would claim that your 5 counterpoints are the Lies … by simply stating the opposite opinion. You have soft reasoning that does not cite specific language in the Programs. Your Death Panel argument isn’t even based on the original source of where the Death Panels issue came from (end of life counseling). You are hoping people will believe these are lies because you say so … and keep saying so — it is an old practice that if you repeat a rumor often enough, people will believe it.

Other topic: If you get hit by a bus (and not die), you will be quite damaged. You may not be coherent. Are you willing to carry a card that says “uninsured … if it costs more than $xxxK to fix me, please do not take me to a medical facility”? (of course, this $ amount would have to be based on your net worth and credit rating) … if so, good for you, but I suspect the vast majority of folks would not sign up for that feature as part of reform. When I was 12, one of my best friends fell out of a tree and became a quadraplegic. He was in the hospital for 2 years. I don’t know how that was paid, but I know the family could never have paid on their own. Are children supposed to be subject to their parents’ decisions not to be insured (and carry the ‘uninsured advisory card’)? I suppose this could be fine with your philosophy/opinion, but it is not mine.

I would suggest that because as a society, we collectively have inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness (don’t think I need to bother with the footnote) — I believe it goes without saying that you cannot do that without a foundation of good health. Now that ‘good health’ has gone beyond the days when it was everything the village Doc can fit in a black bag, the portion of our inalienable rights that is our collective health cannot be left solely in the hands of profit motivated organizations.

  16. I would disagree with your argument that life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are built on a foundation of good health. Just because you have good health doesn’t mean you’ll have a good life. Plenty of people have lived great lives and not been healthy.

It is not my responsibility to pay for your health, and it is not society’s responsibility to pay for your good health. If you want to be healthy take care of yourself. If you can’t afford to pay for some terrible thing that happens to you, turn to your family and friends, if they can’t help turn to the neighbors in your community to help. The key is choice.

In a government run health care solution, I have no choice. I have to help you, or the IRS comes after me. Personally, I will refuse to work and have my income garnished to support you. I may have wanted to help you out, but the second you forced it upon me you lost me. I rather sit on a park bench and do nothing all day.

As for whether the top #5 Health care lies are fact or opinions. I guess time will tell. Some people have a better sense of actions and their consequences. Take away a Doctor’s incentive to practice medicine, he won’t want to practice medicine. Helping people isn’t ones sole motivation to become a doctor. Force him into a situation where he has no option but to help, and watch the quality go down, and less Doctors enter the field. Why would anyone want to contribute when others can get things for free? It doesn’t make much sense. Here, let me go to work, so you can sit on your butt all day. Not going to happen. Or do you propose that the government forces us all to work, so we can pay taxes to fund your health care?

Offer a health care option at a cheaper price and people will come in droves. Forget to run it like a business, which big government seems to do quite often and you end up having to raise everyone’s taxes.

The changes won’t affect the rich, they’ll always have the money they need to pay for good quality health care. Forget about the poor, they already have great health care. The only people that truly are affected are the middle class, and what they’ll get is long lines and pitiful service. Instead of Canadians coming down to the U.S., we’ll all be singing Viva La Mexico. I hear they’ve got great health care, don’t they?

  17. Thank you admin … as much as you and I disagree, I appreciate this post the most. It is a much clearer, reasonable statement of your position, which I can respect. I would like to hope that all the discourse on these topics, especially within our congress, could get to this level of communication.
